The Top

I’d like to post a small snippet in regards to my favorite books of 2016, and where you can find them! Read on if you care to know more!

Favorite Romance – Tracing the Stars by Amanda Richardson. I can’t say enough about it, I really enjoyed the premise of this story, the characters, the plot. It was fantastic. A good change of pace for me, and the first book I read that got me out of my reading slump. Something about the way Amanda hooks you in…I want to go to Antarctica now, because of her words.

Favorite Debut Release – Burning Muses by J.R. Rogue. Honestly, if you don’t know who this woman is you clearly have been living under a rock.In her debut novel (she’s a published poet), I fell in love with Rogue’s attention to imagery and character development. This particular story bent me out of shape in a good way. I absolutely LOVED it.

Favorite Poetry collection – Dragon Hearts and Dandelion Fuzz by Madalyn Beck. Now…a lot of people really loved Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur, and although that is a fabulous chapbook, Beck takes the cake here, and not just because she’s my friend. In fact, I didn’t get to know her very well until AFTER I read this beautiful collection full of hope, and the fire that burns in us all. I love her words anyway, and this just made my little heart happy. I read it right before summer and found myself looking for dandelions all season.

Favorite Thriller – Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. Honestly…is this a thriller? I’d say so. This story has me slightly screwed up, but I couldn’t look away. It’s dark and twisty, and the writing was unique. I had a visual run down of every single thing, and although that was slightly terrifying, it was also right up my alley. I love the dark side of life.

Favorite Series – A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Mass. Hands down, ACOMAF was the best book I read in 2016, and also the book I read most. This series absolutely ruined me and I loved it. I can’t get over the writing, the fantasy element, the plot, the foreshadowing, ALL OF IT. Beyond that, Maas has me gnawing off my nails until I get book three which comes in May. I’ve dipped into her Throne of Glass series as well, and I’m finding that I love it very much.

Books to watch out for and indulge in.

Possession by AM Johnson, will be releasing in 2017 and you’re in for a real treat with that story! Johnson tapped into a slightly darker part of her brain and she did a wonderful job. This story absolutely tangled me up in between it’s lines. I LOVED it, so much. I loved the way it read and how much the characters affected me. Watch out, it’s stellar.

I’m currently reading Closer by Mary Elizabeth and HELLO, holy shit why haven’t I read her words sooner? This woman KILLS writing and story telling. I’m sucked in already, and Teller…well dammit, I’m swooning but I don’t know if I should be? I don’t know if I care? UGHHHH so good!

Jen Tirone is releasing her debut novel, Farewell my Loves next week! I’ve heard such good things about this, and as this is her first release, I encourage you all to go give her your support! Can’t wait to dive in!

It’s really hard to select books that have touched me more than others, but honestly, these are the ones that have stuck with me this year. It’s not a long list, but it doesn’t need to be. I’m always in awe by anyone who write a book and braves their soul, but some stick with me more than others, and these are the ones that have or the ones that hold promise to. I’m excited to see what these writers, as well as a million others create in 2017. I’m always blown away by what people can pull out of thin air!

xox,

Hayley
